Areas of specialty

Mood disorders

Nearly 21.4% of U.S. adults will be diagnosed with a mood disorder at some point in their lifetime.  Mood disorders can impact anyone regardless of race, age, or gender.  Our therapist specializes in the treatment of outpatient mood disorders through the use of Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) techniques.  Sessions are focused on emphasizing techniques to improve medication adherence, stress management, and unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Psychosis

Psychosis refers to a collection of symptoms that affect the mind, where there has been some loss of reality.  During an episode of psychosis, a person's thoughts and perceptions are disrupted and they may have difficulty recognizing what is and is not real.  Our therapist utilizes a combination of evidence-based practices to help patients gain control and recover from psychosis.  For some, recovery means the ability to lead a fulfilling and productive life even if psychotic symptoms sometimes return.

Trauma

While not all trauma survivors experience long-term negative consequences, we know that the experience of trauma can profoundly affect someone’s psychological, social, physical, occupational, and financial functioning.  Our goal is to demonstrate tools and techniques to assist patients in overcoming trauma and improving their mental health while providing a secure environment to enable patients to process and heal from traumatic experiences.

Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are one of the most common mental health concerns, affecting an estimated 6.2 % of the U.S. population each year.  We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment to help patients manage symptoms of anxiety, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies.  Through an integrative approach, our therapist assists patients in overcoming anxiety and improving mental well-being.

Testing and Evaluation

Mental health testing and evaluation consist of a series of tests that help to determine the correct diagnosis and appropriate course of treatment.  Often, symptoms are apparent, such as when a child experiences academic and social problems or when an adult struggles to maintain personal and professional relationships.  Some types of assessments our therapist uses are psychometric testing, sexual interest inventories, and clinical interviews.
