Samantha earned her Master of Health Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology, from Catawba College. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor through the NC Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (#17770) and a Licensed Professional Counselor through the SC Board of Examiners for Counselors, Therapists and Psychoeducational Specialists (#10262). Samantha is also a Certified Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, a Certified Neuropsychotherapist, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She has obtained additional certification and/or training in the following areas: trauma-focused care, personality disorder treatment, addictions-informed care, and Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy.
Samantha has had the opportunity to work with patients with a variety of mental health concerns in school-based, college mental health, and outpatient settings. Her clinical focus is on severe and persistent mental illness, with a concentration on mood disorders. As a Neuropsychotherapist, Samantha utilizes a multidisciplinary approach that integrates traditional psychotherapy with neurobiology. During sessions, she commonly helps patients identify and challenge self-limiting patterns, heal from past experiences, gain insight into how the unconscious influences behavior, while also keeping in mind the brain-body connection. Her research interests include the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system, the development of neurodevelopmental disorders, and genetic links between schizophrenia and associated comorbid conditions.
Samantha maintains professional memberships with the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA), the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC), the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), the Licensed Clinical Counselors of North Carolina (LCCNC), the National Board of Forensic Evaluators (NBFE), the National Counseling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), and the North Carolina Counseling Association (NCCA).
